Muscat, February 10 (ONA) — A ceremony was held today to mark the graduation of 60 male and female graduates from the second cohort of the “Be With Us for Them” initiative for the training and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
Her Excellency Dr. Laila bint Ahmed Al-Najjar, Minister of Social Development and patron of the ceremony, affirmed in a statement the important role and contribution of the private sector, companies, and government institutions that took the initiative to provide employment opportunities for persons with disabilities after completing the training program.
She stated that the achievements made in training, rehabilitating, and empowering this group to play an active role in serving and building society—through providing suitable and decent job opportunities and enabling them to acquire experience and skills during the training period—contributed to their nomination for employment in the private sector, which played the largest role in the initiative by employing them and integrating them into the labor market.
Her Excellency added that partnership with the private sector has a significant impact in supporting this group, stemming from its belief in their ability to contribute and the many skills and capabilities they possess, which can be invested in by providing them with opportunities and access to employment.
The initiative included rehabilitation tracks in customer service, office administration, document printing and copying, and electronic archiving.
The initiative involved the training and rehabilitation of 21 male and female participants with intellectual, physical, and hearing disabilities at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Sohar, North Al Batinah Governorate, while 39 male and female participants with intellectual, mild to moderate physical, and hearing disabilities were trained and rehabilitated at the Mohammed Al Barwani Institute for Training in Al Azaiba, Muscat Governorate.
The initiative, implemented in partnership between the Ministry of Social Development and the Specialized Human Development Center, aims to contribute to achieving the goals and values of Oman Vision 2040, encourage key sectors in the Sultanate of Oman to fulfill strategic national priorities related to strengthening social responsibility and empowering persons with disabilities, and invest in the creative ideas and capabilities of human resources.
The initiative also seeks to enhance and develop work systems based on the concept of social responsibility, increase the state’s capacity to efficiently utilize its resources across all sectors, and highlight the role of government entities, private-sector companies, and civil society organizations in activating institutional partnerships in social responsibility to support this group.
Furthermore, the initiative aims to provide advanced social services and programs that meet community needs, and to establish an integrated institutional community partnership framework that strengthens identity, citizenship, social cohesion, and solidarity.
The ceremony featured presentations of success stories from a number of graduates employed through the initiative, in addition to a visual presentation titled “Building and Giving,” which reflected the launch of the “Be With Us for Them” initiative for the training and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, as well as a showcase of private-sector institutions that employed several of the initiative’s graduates.
